Dina's Puppies 4-7-17 - Weeks 4 thru 6

The beginning of week four, we move the puppies from the whelping box (in our guest's bedroom) out to our family room. This is the beginning of the socialization process - a process that is vital to their becoming the terrific companions they were born to be. In the photo above, mom and the little ones are all a little bewildered by their new environment.

Two weeks old . . .

They weighed 5 to 8 ounces at birth.  Now they are all over a pound.

And I had to share this photo with you. Is this a gorgeous little face or what?

New Spring 2016 Pups!

Hi Folks, at long last we again have puppies available. One week ago, Dina, our beautiful tri-color Champion, gave birth to a litter of six! There are four girls and two boys. And now for the good part: they are all Blenheim (chestnut & white). Dad is a Blenheim, but one would expect Blenheim to Tri would produce some of each color - right? Oh well, we're happy to have six, beautiful puppies. And that's not just pride talking. See for yourself:

Cookie's 1-30-14 and Pixie's Pups 2-21-14

The dust is beginning to settle. First having two litters this close together is good and not-good. Good if one mother, for one reason or another should temporarily loose her milk, the other mother can fill in for her (which happened in this case). Not-good because it becomes very confusing. When the puppies are between three and six weeks old, separation of litters is important. As the pups grow older, the difference based on age becomes less significant; they spend more and more time together, until they are together all the time. So, trying to totally separate the litters in the photo CD that we usually send home with the puppies is not practical.

Second, for various reasons, we still have two lovely Blenheim girls that have not been spoken for. We took three photos with the intention of selecting one to post here; but they are so photogenic, we couldn't select just one, so we are attaching all three here.

Cookie's Pups 1-30-14

Cookie's puppies are doing very well. All are growing nicely and their intelligence is stunning. They've been going thru the doggie door without assistance since they were barely six weeks old (they're eight weeks old as of last Thursday). They are already exploring their environment to discover what they can and cannot manipulate. They spend most of their days outside on our patio off the kitchen, and they particularly enjoy their play mat (activity gym).

Pixie's Pups 2-21-14

Well, I'm very sorry to have taken over a month to get around to telling you about Pixie's pups. And surprise ... we have four when we were expecting only three. We have one Blenheim girl, a Blenheim boy, and two tri-colored boys, and of course, they were born on February 21.

As you may know, we move the pups from the whelping box in our guest bedroom to a pen we've set up in our living room to start socializing them in the kind of environment they will live in when they go to  their new homes. The point is: the living room now looks more like the Kansas City stockyards.
